Vintage Painted Gaiwan 草木兮故里

The painted design on this Gaiwan uses the technique of Chinese Gongbi painting. Gongbi painting is a traditional Chinese painting technique that originated in the Tang dynasty. It focuses on realism and usually depicts subjects such as flowers and birds, people, and landscapes, and has a rich cultural background and artistic value, holding an important position in world art history.

The painting on the bowl features delicate lines and colors that clearly and finely outline the contours of the image. The artist then uses contrasting, nuanced colors to fill in the forms, textures, and lighting effects of the objects. You can see the distant mountains and the figures in the foreground, which make it a traditional Chinese landscape painting.

The Gongbi painting technique typically involves layering color one after another, waiting for each layer to dry before applying the next to ensure that the colors are clear, bright, and full. This makes the firing of this Gaiwan more complicated, resulting in a beautiful and unique Chinese-style bowl.

To add a sense of depth to the bowl, we also applied a gradual transition of brown glaze, blending traditional and modern minimalist styles to create a novel aesthetic. Therefore, whether as a gift or for personal collection, this Gaiwan is an excellent choice.
